4130 Steel Properties and Applications - EngineeringClicks

Dec 05, 2018 · AISI 4130 steel is forged at a temperature between 950° C and 1230° C. If the temperature is at the lower end during the finishing stage, the grain of the steel alloy will be finer. If the temperature is too low at forging it may affect the uniformity in parts of the structure creating the need for normalisation before heat treating the steel. 4130, 4340, AMS 6345, AMS 6348,AMS 6414, AMS 6415, AISI 4130 is a low alloy steel containing molybdenum and chromium as strengthening agents. The carbon content is nominally 0.30% and with this relatively low carbon content the alloy is excellent from the fusion weldability standpoint. The alloy 4130 can be hardened by heat treatment.

AISI 4130 alloy steel is a medium carbon, low alloy steel in ASTM A29 standard. ASTM 4140 steel is also commonly referred to as a chromoly steel, or chrome moly steel, containing nominally 0.28-0.33% Carbon, 0.8-1.1% Chromium and 0.15-0.25% Molybdenum. Tempering. AISI 4140 alloy steel can be tempered at 205 to 649°C (400 to 1200°F) depending upon the desired hardness level. The hardness of the steel can be increased if it has a lower tempering temperature.

The overall coefficient is the linear thermal expansion (in.) per degree Fahrenheit or Celsius. The CTE data is calculated by the change in length divided by the quantity of the length at room temperature, multiplied by the change of temperature.
